Barnet’s Supporting People Commissioning Board and Barnet Providers Forum wish to ensure that there is active, positive and well-structured dialogue concerning the Supporting People strategy and service programme. This Protocol sets out joint operational arrangements to enable efficient and professional communication between the partners and with service users.

The Protocol has been agreed between the Provider Forum, the Practitioners Group and the council in its capacity as Supporting People Administering Authority.

Commissioning board

The commissioning board is a partnership of senior representatives from Barnet Council’s housing and social care divisions, probation and the Primary Care Trust (PCT).

The commissioning board has a strategic overview of the programme and is responsible for decision-making. The board meets every two months.

Core Strategy Group (CSG)

The Core Strategy Group has a broader membership than the Commissioning Board.

Its representatives are drawn from the key areas and agencies involved in delivering Supporting People, for example, representatives of service providers, the voluntary sector, mental health, drug and alcohol, and children and families services attend, among many others.

This group is responsible for ensuring the progress of the programme and driving improvements. The group meets every month.

Provider forum

The provider forum comprises all current Supporting People service providers.

It is an opportunity for providers to meet together, keep abreast of programme developments and discuss good practice. It meets every three months.

2006-2007 minutes

Provider forum - practitioners group

The Practitioners Group steers the Provider Forum and represents the providers on the Core Strategy Group and Commissioning Board.

It includes representatives across the range of primary need groups, for example older people, learning disability, young people etc., so that every type of service is represented. This group meets every month.

2006-2007 minutes

Older peoples' provider forum

The older peoples' provider forum is a theme forum which was convened in advance of service reviews for this sector and has continued to meet to benchmark and share good practice.

Sheltered housing and providers of other types of services for older people attend. The forum happens every four months.
