Charging
Help with Supporting People charges
- Most people using Supporting People services have nothing to pay.
- Services that offer short-term support for less than two years are free of charge.
- Services that offer support for more than two years do make a charge, but you will not have to pay if you get Housing Benefit or if you qualify for a rebate.
What help is available?
There are two ways you can get help with support charges.
- If you receive Housing Benefit for your rent, the council will also pay for your support charge. You just need to tell your support provider that you receive Housing Benefit. Your support provider will then arrange for your support charge to be paid in full by the council.
- If you do not receive Housing Benefit for your rent, you may still get help with the support charge by applying for a rebate through the council's ‘Fairer Charging policy’. To find out more about applying for a rebate speak to your support provider or contact the Supporting People team.
More information about the ‘Fairer Charging policy’ can be found in the booklet entitled Community care services for people living at home - fairer charging policy.
